Mango Rice

My this post is dedicated to my friend " Pooja", who is an excellent cook, and make amazingly delicious food. Mango Rice is a one of the dishes which I tried at her place, when I was visiting her. It is one of the frequently made dish of rice in every household in South India. People of South India starts making it, as soon as raw mango is available in Markets.

Raw Mango has lots of health benefits. 
  1. It is sour in taste, and is generally green in color. 
  2. The center of the fruit has a single seed, which is oblong and flat. 
  3. The raw mango is highly appreciated for its nutritional value. They are excellent source of Vitamin C.  
  4. Raw mangoes are also good source of Vitamin B complex, that are beneficial to maintain good health. 
  5. Due to the presence of vitamin C, they are highly beneficial in strengthening immune system. It helps in throwing away from all waste products from the body.

There are few more recipes of raw Mango, which is very popular in India. 1 of them, is a popular refreshing sweet and sour drink, made in summer. And 1 of the most famous side dish made from Raw Mango is a Mango Pickle. The Recipes of these dishes will be following up soon.

Here, is a recipe of Mango Rice for you to try - 
 
Ingredients - 
  1. White Basmati Rice - 2 cups
  2. Salt to taste
  3. Sugar- 1tsp
  4. Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
  5. Cooking Oil - 1tbsp
  6. Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
  7. Hing - 1 tsp
  8. Raw Mango - 1 (Grated)
  9. Green Chillies - 4-5
  10. Curry Leaves - 8-10 leaves
  11. Channa Dal - 1 handful
  12. Peanuts - 1/2 cup (roasted)
Directions - 
  • Boil Rice in enough water. When done, drain out the water, and keep it aside open to cool down.
  • In a pan, heat oil, add mustard seeds, curry leaves, green chillies, channa dal, close the lid and let mustard seeds crackle. 
  • Add salt, hing, sugar and turmeric powder, and stir.
  • Add grated raw mango, mix and cover it and cook on medium flame for 5 minutes.
  • Close the flame.
  • Add cooked rice and mix properly.
  • Add Peanuts, mix and serve hot.
