Saraswati Puja - Malpua
Saraswati Puja is also known as Vasant Panchami. This is a Hindu festival. And on this very day, hindus worship goddess Saraswati for Knowledge, music, art and culture.
In Hindu religion, it is believed that Goddess Saraswati, the hindu goddess of knowledge, music, arts and science, who is also the companion of Brahma, and is also revered as his Shakti (power). It was with her knowledge, that Brahma created the universe. She is a part of trinity "Saraswati", "Lakshmi" and "Parvati". All the three forms help trinity "Brahma", "Vishnu" and "Shiva" in the creation, maintenance and destruction of the Universe.
In India, many people believe if the kids write their first word on this very day, they will do well in their life and career. Traditionally during this festival children are taught to write their first words, Brahmins are invited for lunch, ancestor worship is performed and most educational institutions organize special prayer or puja for Goddess Saraswati.
In my hometown, On very day of Sarawati Puja, we make a special sweet dish of All Purpose Flour and dry fruits which is known as - MALPUA, and offer it to Goddess while worshiping. Right from my childhood, I have seen my mother performing puja of Goddess Saraswati, on this auspicious day. Herr, is the recipe of Malpua for you all.

Ingredients for MALPUA -
- All Purpose Flour - 2 cups
- Banana (ripped) - 1(big)
- Saunf - 1/2 tbsp
- Cardamom Powder - 1tsp
- Sugar - 1 cup
- Almond - 1 cup (crushed)
- Raisin - 1/2 cup
- Milk - 2 cups (as required)
- Oil - 2 cups (for frying)
Directions -
- Mash Banana and mix it with All Purpose flour.
- Add Saunf, cardamom powder and Sugar and stir it.
- Now, Add Milk to make it a batter of pouring consistency.
Sitting for 4 hours |
- Cover and leave it aside for 4-6 hours.
- Add crushed Almond and raisins.
- Heat the oil, and add the big spoonful of batter spreading it to make a circle.
- Fry it on medium heat, on either sides till it turns Golden brown.
- Serve it at room temperature with cold Rabri.
